New patients

Your first visit is a full eye exam, about an hour long. Here is how it works and what to bring.

How a first exam works

  1. Call to book

Carys books your exam and checks your vision and medical benefits before you arrive.

  2. Fill in your forms

We text you a link to the forms, or fill them in here 15 minutes early.

  3. Your exam

A technician takes measurements and retinal photos. Then the doctor examines your eyes and explains what they found.

  4. Glasses or contacts

Thandiwe fits new glasses. Contact lens patients take trial lenses home. If the trial lenses fit well, we can send your prescription by email or the patient portal.

Your first exam

Bring your current glasses, your contact lens boxes or their details, a list of your medicines and your insurance cards.

If your eyes may be dilated, bring sunglasses and a driver. Your vision is blurry for several hours afterward.

Vision and medical insurance

  • VSP
  • EyeMed
  • Davis Vision
  • Spectera
  • Medicare
  • Florida Blue

Vision plans cover a routine exam and part of your glasses or contacts. A medical eye problem, such as an infection, dry eye or diabetes, is billed to medical insurance. We check both before you come in.

Payment

We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express, HSA and FSA cards, CareCredit.

Questions before your first exam

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book an eye exam directly. Some medical plans ask for a referral for medical eye visits, and we tell you if yours does.

What if I do not have vision insurance?

We give you the price of the exam when you book, and the price of any glasses or contacts before you order them.
